Sci-Tech Oscar Goes To Pixar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced the recipients of awards for scientific and technical achievement for the year 2000. The Scientific and Technical Academy Awards will be presented on Saturday evening, March 3, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. An Oscar statuette will be among 17 Academy Awards for scientific and technical achievement to be presented during the ceremony.

The 15th Annual London International Advertising Awards

The 15th Annual London International Advertising Awards will showcase the best in the world of advertising. The competition takes entries from interactive media, package design, radio, print and television/cinema. This year's jury chairman for the print, radio and television/cinema division will be commercial director Trevor Beattie. The chairman for the interactive jury will be David Streek of Deepend Design. Last year the awards had 17,226 entries from 84 countries.

Primetime Emmys See Some Surprises

On July 20, 2000, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences released its primetime Emmy nominations with FAMILY GUY receiving two nods, more than any other animated series. Edgy humor has long hampered GUY. Yet, the Academy looked past all the turmoil and gave the series nominations for outstanding animated program for one hour or less for the "Road to Rhode Island" episode and an outstanding music and lyrics nomination for the song "We Only Live To Kiss Your Ass" from composer Ron Jones and lyricist Chris Sheridan.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has named the four honorees of its primetime Emmy award for individual achievement in animation. This category is a juried award that does not have nominations. An Academy picked peer group panel chooses the winners. This years prizes are as follows.

Daytime Emmy Tech Awards Announced

On Saturday May 13, 2000, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences handed out their Daytime Emmy Awards for technical achievement. Many of the awards handed out featured animated series like big winner ROLIE POLIE OLIE for best special class animated program. The 3D animation series beat out ANGELA ANACONDA, BATMAN BEYOND, DISNEYS MICKEY MOUSEWORKS and THE SYLVESTER & TWEETY MYSTERIES for the honor. BLUES CLUES lost to BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY in the childrens series writing category and lost to BEAR IN THE BIG BLUE HOUSE in the childrens series directing category.

Canada's Golden Sheaf Awards

Golden Sheaf Awards or the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival offer awards in various categories which include Children's Production, Documentray Over 30 Minutes, Documentray Under 30 Minutes, and Drama Under 60 minutes. Films must be 16mm, BETACAM, BETACAM SP NTSC or VHS NTSC. The entry fee for the competition is CA$100. All films entered must have been completed between March 13, 1999 and February 10, 2000.

The Old Man And His Oscar

At the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Oscar Awards on Sunday, March 26, 2000, THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA by Alexander Petrov won for best animated short film. "Having been nominated twice before, now I can look at this award without irony," Petrov said. "I'm very happy to have received the Oscar as it has given THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA and my earlier films recognition. And like any artist I wanted to be first. I'm happy that the Academy has the category of animated short film, because it gives a chance to independent artists to show their work.
