Pixel Zoo Animation Studios Launches Pixel Labs Unit

Australia’s Pixel Zoo Animation Studios has launched Pixel Labs, a Los Angeles-based studio focused on original content production, according to Variety. Josh Fisher (Go, Dog, Go, Daniel Spellbound) will serve as head of development.

Known for its animation services for leading global clients such as Hasbro, MGA Entertainment, Spin Master, eOne, and Moonbug Entertainment, Pixel Zoo has been part of MGA Studios since its 2022 acquisition.

“We’re excited to broaden our client business with the launch of Pixel Labs,” said Pixel Zoo founder and CEO Paul Gillett. “The new division, which encourages artists and storytellers to push creative boundaries to bring new original worlds and stories to life, furthers MGA Studios’ vision of creating bold, global franchises that spark young kids’ imaginations both on and off the screen.”

“We are delighted to be working with Josh, whose creativity and vision have been central to this new venture,” added head of studio Sebastian Gonzalez. “We already have a handful of co-productions in the works which are a mix of our IP and projects that have come to us from other creators around the world.”

Pixel Labs projects in development include:

The Secret Explorers - A CG-animated action-adventure series based on the book series, co-produced with Spain’s Liquid Rock. MGA Entertainment will develop a toy line and YouTube strategy.
You Wish - Based on Jeff Victor’s graphic novel, this story follows a girl who discovers she’s half-genie.
Fixie Pixies - Created by Corey Powell and Aaron Simpson, the animated series follows three pixies who renovate miniature fantasy homes while solving household dilemmas.
Kitty Witch - An original series from Samuel Keene, which follows a girl with a cat witch.

Pixel Labs aims to build its original content slate through co-productions, content partnerships, and adaptations of books and comics.
