Cartoon Saloon High-Kicks Its Way Into U.S. With Skunk Fu!

Cartoon Saloon, an award-winning animation and illustration design studio, has successfully entered the U.S. entertainment market with its animated television series SKUNK FU!, now airing across the world. The Kids WB and Cartoon Network purchased 52 episodes, with the Cartoon Network now airing the series in every region of the country. In addition, N Circle purchased DVD and digital rights in the U.S.

Cartoon D'Or To Unveil Rising Talents In European Animation

CARTOON, the European Association of Animation Film, has announced the five director finalists for the 18th edition of the Cartoon d'Or, the only European prize specific to animated short films.

The candidates will have the opportunity to attend the Cartoon Forum Ludwigsburg in Germany and present their films to more than 700 professionals. The screening will take place on Thursday, September 18, during the official Cartoon d'Or Award ceremony, where the name of the winner will be unveiled.

The 2008 MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) Art Festival will take place the weekend of June 7-8 at the historic Puck Building (293 Lafayette Street at Houston) in downtown Manhattan's famed SoHo arts district. The festival will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm both days. Admission starts at $10/day or $15/weekend but is only $10/weekend for MoCCA members.

Cartoon Network announced its programming line-up for 2008 at the New York upfronts, held Thursday.

On the heels of February's announcement that STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS will come to Cartoon Network as a series in the fall, George Lucas, the creator and steward of the STAR WARS brand, attended the Upfront event to provide additional details on this highly anticipated offering.

Bakugan Continues World Domination

The BAKUGAN craze continues as the hit anime series is now ready to air on a number of Cartoon Network channels internationally, Nelvana Enterprises announced today in advance of MIPTV.

The action-adventure series aimed at boys aged 6 to 11 is already a broadcast and consumer products phenomenon in Japan and Canada, and premiered on Cartoon Network in the U.S. on February 24.

Sci-Fi's Swartz In At Cartoon Network

Sci-Fi Channel executive Robert Swartz has been named vice president of original series for Cartoon Network, it was announced Friday by Robert Sorcher, chief content officer for the network.

Swartz's hiring marks the consolidation of the network's development andcurrent series departments under one roof at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank.

Swartz will start on March 17, and be based at the studio in Burbank, reporting directly to Sorcher.

Cartoon Net, Nelvana Support Bakugan

Following their recent U.S. announcement, Cartoon Network and Nelvana Enterprises have entered into a relationship to support their new anime property, BAKUGAN, the companies announced Friday.

Through the agreement, Cartoon Network will serve as the brand's licensing agent for the non-toy related categories across Europe and Africa.

Kung Fu Chickens Kick Into Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network Germany has acquired all TV rights to CHOP SOCKY CHOOKS, a DECODE Entertainment co-production with Aardman Animations, the companies announced today.

The Chooks are a crack team of Kung Fu chickens: Chuckie Chan, Chick P and KO Joe.

The three plucky heroes work undercover at Wasabi World, a towering shopping mall run by their archenemy Dr. Wasabi, a mutated piranha and the head of an evil retain empire.

Eliot Kid Licensed to Cartoon Network in Europe

Cake Distribution announced today their latest comedy action series ELIOT KID was licensed to Cartoon Network for its EMEA Channels.

The deal brings ELIOT KID further into Europe, after securing sales to TF1, BBC, ABC Australia, Disney Channel France, Italy, Spain and Germany, RTBF, TSR, TV2 Denmark and RUV Iceland.

ELIOT KID, a Safari de Ville/Samka Productions co-production, is a comedy-action-adventure animated cartoon for children ages 6-9.

CN To Open Kuwaiti Theme Park

Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) and Future Kid & Real Estate Company have announced an agreement to create a fully branded Cartoon Network indoor theme park in Kuwait City that will open in 2008. The deal represents the first CNE venture into branded theme parks within the EMEA region.

The 3500-square-meter park will include CN-branded games and rides, character costume events, merchandise areas and fun promotions with onsite food and beverage outlets.

BKN Signs Stone Age Contract

BKN has announced tthat its Spanish subsidiary BKN New Media SL has signed an agreement worth 1.3 million euros with Cartoon One S.r.l. in Italy for the co-production of STONE AGE (52x11). In return for the rights to the Italian market and a profit participation in the property, Cartoon has agreed to the non-refundable payment, which represents 25% of the production budget. The property will be co-produced with BKN's all-digital and high definition studios in London and Barcelona and Cartoon's studio in Rome.

Cartoon Network SVP Jennifer Davidson Dies at 38

Cartoon Network SVP of Programming and Scheduling, Jennifer Davidson, unexpectedly died early Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2007. The 38-year-old wife and mother died of a sudden illness. She is survived by her husband, John Davidson, and three young children, Mitchell (7), Oliver (5) and Harper (2).

Register Inks Deal with Warners
