Small Press Spotlight on Rina Ayuyang

Beginning on March 14, 2009, the Cartoon Art Museum's ongoing Small Press Spotlight will feature the art of Rina Ayuyang. Ayuyang first became interested in cartooning while growing up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she spent mornings watching MERRIE MELODIES cartoons, afternoons reading the newspaper funnies and MAD magazine, and evenings scrutinizing illustrations in various children's books right before she'd fall asleep.

Thomas the Tank Engine welcomes friends aboard as he steams across the nation visiting more than 45 heritage railroads in the U.S. and Canada as part of the "Day Out With Thomas 2009: The Hero of the Rails Tour" presented by HIT Ent. and sponsored by The LEGO Group. This fun-filled event offers preschoolers and their families the opportunity to take a ride on a 15-ton replica of Thomas the Tank Engine, star of the THOMAS & FRIENDS series, on PBS KIDS and PBS KIDS Sprout, and features a variety of THOMAS & FRIENDS-themed entertainment.

An Evening with Dana Gould

On the eve of the release of LET ME PUT MY THOUGHTS IN YOU, SF Comedy favorite Dana Gould's newest special and DVD release, the Cartoon Art Museum welcomes Gould for a special presentation on Friday, March 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. Gould is a veteran stand-up comedian and comedy writer, and recently spent seven years as a staff writer on THE SIMPSONS, the longest-running television comedy of all time. Cartoon Art Museum Curator Andrew Farago will conduct an interview with Gould, to be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

MoCCA Watchmen Benefit Screening March 5

This once-in-a-lifetime evening begins with a reception at MoCCA for "The Art of WATCHMEN" exhibition, continues with an advance screening of WATCHMEN, based on the graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, and concludes with an author signing of WATCHMEN PORTRAITS by Clay Enos.

Tickets are available online, by visiting or calling MoCCA, Tuesday-Saturday at 212-254-3511. Tickets are $100 or $75 for MoCCA members.

All proceeds from this special event go to support MoCCA programming.

Meet the Oscars, Chicago

For the first time, Oscar fans in Chicago will be able to hold an actual Oscar statuette and have their photo taken at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' "Meet the Oscars, Chicago." The exhibition will open Friday, February 13, at The Shops at North Bridge on Michigan Avenue, and run through Sunday, February 22, the night of the 81st Academy Awards presentation. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. Chicago is the only city to host a "Meet the Oscars" exhibition this year.

Cartoon Dump combines sketches, songs, puppets, stand-up comedy and crappy cartoons to create a uniquely disturbing and hilarious experience. For the past year it has played to sold-out audiences at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood. It stars Frank Conniff ("TV's Frank" from MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000), Erica Doering, and a rotating cast of deranged characters. The incredibly awful cartoons are curated by animation historian Jerry Beck.
