Producers Graham Pryor and Kade Robertson have launched the Melbourne-based creative collective Robot Fights Monster.
Specializing in animation with a strong emphasis on character-driven storytelling and humor, the new company states it prioritizes ideas, characters, and tone.
“Kade and I were each working individually with some super talented directors,” said Pryor. “We didn’t set out to start a business, but we realized chatting over lunch one day that we both felt really strongly about heroing the amazing talent in Australia and New Zealand. We wanted to make sure the weird and wonderful stuff being created here was seen on a global stage. So, we tossed around the idea of a business model prioritizing the work, and the people who are actually doing that creative work. We keep overheads low, share the profit with the directors, and ensure that they get the voice they deserve. And we make sure that more of the budget ends up on screen.”
Robot Fights Monster will operate under the cooperative creative direction of Studio Showoff; Gibbon; Haein and Paul; Sara Litzenberger; and Jeremy Mansford.
“We’re super stoked to be part of the Robot Fights Monster crew,” said Haein and Paul. “Graham and Kade have brought together an incredible lineup of visionary directors, and we’re genuinely honored to be among them. Big love to those two legends for backing us and giving us the space to do what we do best.”
“We're really excited to be working with such cool directors; they all have such amazing, really unique styles." added Robertson. We think that the key to success for any project is excellent work, and we want to create an environment where our team has what they need to excel."
