Disney’s 20th Century Studios recently took to Instagram to reveal that, after a whopping 20 years, a sequel to The Simpsons Movie is set to hit theaters July 23, 2027. Note that The Simpsons just debuted Season 37 on FOX and Hulu.
Although plot details have not yet been revealed, we do know the basics: the film centers on the iconic yellow family from the longest-running animated series and sitcom on television. Set in the town of Springfield, the show chronicles the lives of Homer, Marge, and their children Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.
The Simpsons Movie (2007) was directed by David Silverman and saw Springfield covered in a big glass dome after a lake pollution incident (D’oh!).
