Fortiche Begins Development of ‘Miss Saturne’ Animated Miniseries

The upcoming original 2D-animated project, based on the novel by Barbara Israël, is set in 1984 and follows two teens who flee Nice, France, carried along by a New Wave mixtape; set to enter production in 2026 for broadcast in 2027.

Fortiche has announced it will executive produce the upcoming original 2D-animated miniseries Miss Saturne now in development with ARTE France and Les Storygraphes. Scriptwriter Louise Silverio and art director/director Anne Raffin lead development.

"With Miss Saturne, we've found a team with the perfect artistic sensibility,” said Jérôme Combe, co-founder of Fortiche. “Louise Silverio brings her already known flair for coming-of-age stories, having worked on the award-winning series Happiness and Ceux qui rougissent. Anne Raffin, who worked on Arcane and music videos, fully shares our desire to explore a strong aesthetic for today's youth. This project is an opportunity for us to explore indie animation designed for the new generation.”

Based on the novel of the same name by Barbara Israël, Miss Saturne is set in 1984 and follows 16-year-old Mercy and Tom, who flee Nice, France and their past aboard a night train. Carried along by a New Wave mixtape, they revisit the key moments of their adolescence and the personal drama that marked them forever.

"Miss Saturne is a unique project that, while rooted in the 80s, captures the essence of adolescence with a musical and emotional intensity that crosses generations,” said Annelyse Vieilledent, co-producer, Les Storygraphes. At a time when young people are rediscovering the retro musical repertoire of that decade, I'm convinced that this free, visceral and resolutely pop tale will resonate strongly with them.”

Initially conceived in a longer format, Miss Saturne has been redesigned as a short series of 10 10-minute episodes. Currently in development, the series is set to go into production in 2026 for broadcast in 2027.
