HBO Sets ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Debut, Drops Teaser Trailer

We finally get a release date for the highly anticipated spinoff series, based on George R. R. Martin’s novella ‘The Hedge Knight,’ set a century before ‘Game of Thrones,’ which follows the exploits of 2 unlikely heroes.

The wait is almost over. We finally have a release date for Game of Thrones spinoff series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. At a New York Comic Con panel, HBO has just shared that its original half-hour drama series will debut its first six-episode season on Sunday, January 18, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max. New episodes will debut subsequent Sundays.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms chronicles a sequence of George R. R. Martin novellas set a century before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows two unlikely heroes who wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. In an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and images of the last dragon have not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

The series stars Peter Claffey (Ser Duncan); Dexter Sol Ansell (Aegon V Targaryen); Finn Bennett (Aerion Targaryen); Danny Webb (Ser Arlan of Pennytree); Shaun Thomas (Raymun Fossoway) Bertie Carvel (Baelor Targaryen); Edward Ashley (Steffon Fossoway); Tanzyn Crawford (Tanselle); Daniel Ings (Ser Lyonel Barotheon); and Sam Spruell (Maekar Targaryen).

Sarah Adina Smith (Lessons in ChemistryHannaBuster’s Mal Heart) directs three of the six episodes, joining director and executive producer Owen Harris.

Co-created, written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker, who also serves as showrunner, the show is also executive produced by Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw. Visual effects are being managed by VFX supervisor Arron Roebuck and VFX producer Paul Russo. No official word yet on VFX vendors on the show.
