Illumination and Universal Reveal 'Minions & Monsters' Cast

Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz and Jeff Bridges are among the stars lending their voices to the all-new ‘Minions’ sequel; the latest chapter in the hit animated franchise arrives July 1.

Illumination and Universal Pictures have announced the all-star voice cast for Minions & Monsters, their latest animated comedy in the studios’ blockbuster Minions franchise, hitting theaters on July 1.

The film’s cast includes Academy Award winners Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz and Jeff Bridges, alongside Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, and Trey Parker. Additional cast members include Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr.

The story follows the Minions, led by a character named Dick, as they rise to fame in Hollywood, lose everything, and inadvertently unleash monsters onto the world before attempting to save the planet from the chaos they created.

Minions & Monsters is directed by Pierre Coffin, who previously helmed the first three Despicable Me films and the original Minions film. Coffin also returns as the voice of the Minions, continuing a role he has performed since the characters’ debut in 2010. Brian Lynch and Coffin wrote the screenplay; the film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan, with Lynch also serving as executive producer.

Meledandri said the film delivers "a full dose of irreverence and comedic mayhem" and highlighted its tribute to cinema history and comedic influences that inspired the Minions’ creation. Who are we to argue?

Since their introduction more than 15 years ago, the Minions have helped drive the Despicable Me and Minions franchise to more than $5.6 billion in global box office revenue. The most recent installment, Minions: The Rise of Gru, released in 2022, approached $1 billion worldwide, signaling the franchise’s continued commercial strength.
