The ‘Bones and All’ scribe will write the stop-motion animated feature be set in a house with infinite rooms, endless corridors, and walls lined with thousands of statues; Travis Knight to direct.
LAIKA has drafted writer Dave Kajganich (Suspiria, Bones And All) to pen a stop-motion animated feature adaptation of the fantasy novel “Piranesi” by Susanna Clarke. LAIKA president & CEO Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee) will direct.
The novel is set in a house with infinite rooms, endless corridors, and walls lined with thousands of statues. Along with Piranesi, there is one other person in the house ― a man called The Other, who visits Piranesi twice a week and asks for help with research into A Great and Secret Knowledge. But as Piranesi explores, evidence emerges of another person, and a terrible truth begins to unravel.
“’Piranesi’ changed my soul and is one of the books in all the world, of any era, I most cherish,” said Kajganich. “Having Travis’ and Susanna’s trust in adapting it is something I take as an honor of the highest order. They are two of the loveliest, smartest, and most humane people you can imagine, so all of this is an actual dream coming true for me.”
Kajganich is currently busy with an adaptation of the Tim Winton novel “The Riders,” which he produces with Ridley Scott, and Be My Baby, with Zendaya attached to star and Barry Jenkins to direct.
