A New ‘Breed’ of Mystery - Trailer Drops for 'The Sheep Detectives'

Amazon MGM Studios showcases more of its ‘baaaadass’ wooly sleuths in the mystery comedy about a rather interesting flock that investigates their shepherd’s death; in theaters May 8.

Amazon MGM Studios has released a new trailer for The Sheep Detectives, its upcoming mystery comedy about some “baaaadass” wooly sleuths trying to track down their shepherd’s killer.

Directed by Kyle Balda of Minions fame, the film hits theaters on May 8. The all-star voice cast includes Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Hong Chau, Emma Thompson, Tosin Cole, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Conleth Hill, and Mandeep Dhillon.

The story follows George Hardy, a shepherd who reads murder mysteries to his sheep each night, assuming they cannot understand… because of course, who would think they do. Unknown to him, the sheep not only comprehend the stories but actively debate them. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep conclude it is a murder and set out to solve the case themselves, navigating both their inexperience and the complexities of the human world.

The trailer is a “shear” pleasure to watch:

Balda directs from a screenplay and screen story by Craig Mazin, based on the novel "Three Bags Full" by Leonie Swann. Producers include Lindsay Doran, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner, with executive producers Tyson Hesse, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Sarah-Jane Wright, Amelia Granger, Aditya Sood, and Tim Wellspring. A Working Title Films and Three Strange Angels production.

Graham Pages is the production VFX supervisor; VFX studios include Clear Angle Studios and Framestore.
