Paramount Global’s Expansive ‘South Park’ Renewal Now Official

Company signs exclusive, 5-year extension with Park County, show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and South Park Digital Studios for 50 new episodes, rights to the current season and 26-season library.

Paramount Global, Park County and South Park Digital Studios have just announced their “expansive,” exclusive 5-year renewal with South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone that includes 50 new episodes, all 26 previous season episodes, extending the show’s airing and streaming on Comedy Central and Paramount+ around the world. The deal calls for Paramount+ to become the new U.S. home for the South Park library and all new episodes. Season 27 debuts today on Comedy Central, tomorrow on Paramount+.

“Matt and Trey are singular, creative forces whose fearless humor and boundary pushing storytelling have made South Park one of the most beloved and enduring series ever — more popular today than at any point in its history, and one of the most valuable TV franchises in the world,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment. “They are exceptional talents and trusted partners – we’re thrilled that Comedy Central and now Paramount+ globally will be the home to South Park for years to come and our thanks to the Skydance team for their vital partnership in making this happen.”

“Trey and I and the whole South Park crew are grateful for this extension and this deal,” said Stone. “We want to thank Chris McCarthy and Keyes Hill-Edgar for years of great partnership and are looking forward to continuing to make South Park for the next five years.”

Though figures were not announced, the five-year deal has been valued by creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s Park County at $300 million a year, for a total of $1.5 billion.

Season 27 was previously delayed at Comedy Central amidst the ongoing rights battle. Before the deal was finally struck, Parker and Stone had accused incoming Paramount president Jeff Shell of attempting to alter their negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix following Paramount’s overall deal expiration.
