Paul King (Paddington, Wonka) is set to direct and produce an upcoming Labubu feature for Sony, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project, still in early development, has not yet found its writer.
The film will be based on Pop Mart’s hugely popular Labubu dolls, which have become a worldwide phenomenon due to their clever “blind boxes” and hot secondary market for in-demand designs. Limited edition figurines and franchise artwork have garnered six-figure prices at auction.
The toys have been repped by celebrities such as Blackpink’s Lisa, which also increased their desirability.
King will produce with Department M and Wenxin She.
