We get our first good look at DC Studios' rebooted take on Kara Zor-El, with Milly Alcock starring in a more battle-worn version of the iconic character inspired by 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.'
DC Studios has released the first official trailer for the long-awaited Supergirl, offering audiences an initial look at Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El in a markedly darker and more battle-worn interpretation of the iconic DC character. You can watch it below.
The film, directed by Craig Gillespie, is part of the reimagined DC cinematic universe spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran under DC Studios. The trailer sets a much different tone from the more recent Superman, positioning Supergirl as a survivor shaped by trauma rather than an optimistic counterpart to the Man of Steel.
The story draws from the comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely, centering on a more hardened Kara who has escaped the destruction of Krypton and navigates a harsh, often unforgiving galaxy. When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.
Supergirl stars Alcock in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa. Yes... Jason Momoa shifts his DC gears and morphs into the role of the cigar smoking galactic bounty hunter, Lobo. And we get the super pup Krypto!
Craig Gillespie directs from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn are producing the film, which is based on characters from DC’s “Supergirl” based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film is executive produced by Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther. Behind the camera, Gillespie is joined by director of photography Rob Hardy, production designer Neil Lamont, editor Tatiana S. Riegel, costume designer Anna B. Sheppard, Visual Effects Supervisor Geoffrey Baumann, and composer Ramin Djawadi.
Studios providing visual effects include Clear Angle Studios, Digital Domain, Framestore, and ILM. In theaters and IMAX across North America on June 26, internationally beginning June 24, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
