BlueBolt Delivers 232 VFX Shots for ‘A Thousand Blows’ Disney+ Series

The studio enhanced brutal bare-knuckle boxing fights as well as created digital environments for key story locations and a CG aerial London cityscape, totalling 125 shots for Season 1 and another 107 shots for the upcoming Season 2.

Led by VFX supervisor Richard Frazer, BlueBolt delivered 125 VFX shots to recreate Victorian London’s boxing scene for Season 1 of the Disney+ Original Series, A Thousand Blows, created by Steven Knight.

As the main VFX studio on the project, BlueBolt created digital environments for key story locations, from set extensions to a full CG dockside environment. The work also included a CG aerial London cityscape and enhancement of the brutal bare-knuckle boxing fights.

BlueBolt created an additional 107 VFX shots for the anticipated A Thousand Blows Season 2. With the two seasons (12 episodes in total) shot back to back and VFX created in the same timescale, the team worked simultaneously across episodes and delivered final VFX on others. The studio collaborated with six directors alongside showrunner Tom Miller to support continuity and ensure the look of key locations and environments were consistent.

All told, the studio delivered 232 VFX shots across both seasons. Check out the Season 1 VFX breakdown reel now:

A Season 2 VFX breakdown will be released after the season debuts on Disney+.
