Flying Bark and Lightfold Partner on Original Animated Project

With a release video proclaiming a new show / comic / game on the way, the companies have announced a collaboration focused on creator-led storytelling, premium animation and stronger connections between artists and audiences.

Flying Bark and Lightfold have announced a new collaboration on an original, yet to be named project, citing a shared belief in sustainable models for creator-led storytelling, premium animation and stronger connections between artists and audiences.

Here’s the launch video, which teases a show, comic, and game:

“We are so excited to be collaborating with the Lightfold team who so obviously share our creative philosophy and passion,” Flying Bark CEO and President Barbara Stephen said. “Together, our partnership will help us deliver new ways to support creators and bring premium animation directly to the fans who love them.”

“I’ve always wanted to build something with passionate storytellers who are genuinely good people, and that’s exactly what we found in Flying Bark,” Lightfold Creative Director and Co-Founder Rogers said. “They’re my kind of people and the ideal partner for what we’re building with Lightfold. Together, we’re giving creators a path to bring original shows directly to fans, so studios like Flying Bark can keep doing what they do best: making killer animation.”

Flying Bark is an independent producer of family-focused animated content, with studio locations in Sydney, Los Angeles and Madrid, as well as partner studios around the world. The company produces original independent feature films and series and provides animation services for global clients, with almost 700 employees working across traditional 2D, CG and CG/2D hybrid animation. Recent animation productions include Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender and Shaun Tan’s Tales from Outer Suburbia. They are currently working on Ghostbusters: Night Shift, a Clash of Clans series, a Minecraft series and the original feature film Zac Power.

Co-founded by Atlanta-based producer Forrester Kane and Nashville-based content creator and executive producer Olan Rogers, Lightfold brings a creator-first model built around games, comics and series, along with a global fan community. The company notes its approach is intended to help redefine how independent animation is financed, distributed and grown – “Follow a story you love as it’s made and support creators with curated apparel, collectibles, or books. Fans influence the slate. Creators own their stories.”

The company launched the pilot for Godspeed in 2023, which secured a multi-million-dollar distribution deal after reaching more than 2.2 million views on YouTube, being selected for eight international festivals and winning Telly and Collision Awards.

Further details on the collaboration have not been announced.
