The network’s recent San Diego Comic-Con panel included a first look at ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ artwork, an ‘Avatar’ Cast Reunion, a tribute video, and a ‘Secret Tunnel’ sing-along led by composer Jeremy Zuckerman.
Nickelodeon marked two decades of Avatar: The Last Airbender with a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which was packed with surprises and sneak peeks into the future of the Avatar-verse.
Moderated by Janet Varney (the voice of Korra), the event included:
- A video honoring 20 years of Avatar fandom.
- Mae Whitman (voice of Katara) shared a heartfelt video expressing her gratitude for being part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
- A reunion of the original voice cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender, joined by series composer Jeremy Zuckerman and creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.
- A first look at artwork from Avatar: Seven Havens, the upcoming 2D animated series from Avatar Studios, which follows a young Earthbender who discovers she is the next Avatar.
- Live table reads from three of Varney’s favorite Avatar episodes: “The Serpent’s Pass / Appa’s Lost Days,” “The Western Air Temple,” and “Sozin's Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang.”
- A “Secret Tunnel” sing-along, led by series composer Jeremy Zuckerman and backed by a video montage featuring scenes from various Avatar episodes and animated visuals.
Attendees experienced the four elements through immersive activations, photo ops, and interactive booth activities, along with outdoor experiences.
Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender emerged from its three-season run (61 episodes), from February 2005 to July 2008, as one of the most beloved animated properties in history. Honored with a Peabody Award and Primetime Emmy, along with multiple Annie Awards and Genesis Awards, the series follows the adventures of the main protagonist Aang and his friends, who must defeat Fire Lord Ozai and end the Hundred Year War to restore balance to the Four Nations.
Continuing the next era of the Avatar-verse, Avatar Studios will release the animated feature, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender on October 9, 2026. Dave Bautista stars as the main villain; also lending their voice talents to the film are Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Roman Zaragoza. The project is slated as the first of three planned standalone films, and is being directed by Lauren Montgomery, with William Mata acting as co-director.
