Quirino Awards Announce Ninth Edition Shortlist

Selections include 53 titles from 8 countries; the official list of nominees will be announced March 5 in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards hase announced the 53 shortlisted titles from eight countries for the event’s ninth edition. Chosen from 265 entries, the works will compete for a spot among the nominees in 10 categories, created to promote the visibility, talent, and growth of the animation industry in Spain, Portugal, and Latin American countries.

The list of nominees will be announced on March 5 at a ceremony in São Paulo, Brazil. On April 17, the winners will be announced at a ceremony in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Quirino Awards are sponsored primarily by the Tenerife Council through Tenerife Tourism and the Tenerife Film Commission.

A selection committee chose the 53 shortlisted entries; nominees in each category will be chosen by an International jury composed of Cesar Cabral, winner of the 2022 Quirino Award for Best Feature Film for his film Bob Spit: We Do Not Like People; Moe Honan, founder and executive director of Moetion Films Ireland; Marilyn Montano, executive director of PlayLab Animation Studio and TeamApp; Martha Sepúlveda, senior development executive at CAKE Entertainment; and Krešimir Zubčić, supervisor of acquisitions and animated content programming at HRT (Croatian Radio Television). The same jury will also be responsible for picking the winners in each of the 10 categories.

Registration is open until February 19 for professionals interested in attending the Ibero-American Co-Production and Business Forum, an industry event organized by the Quirino Awards aimed at promoting the production, financing, and distribution of animated films in the Ibero-American region. This year, the event will be held from April 15 to 17, with an additional day added to the program.
