Festival screenings begin September 18 with Kid Koala’s ‘Space Cadet;’ conference, which runs September 20-21, will open with a Brad Bird talk; presentations on the making of ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ Pixar Animation’s ‘Elio,’ the adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits,’ and ‘In Your Dreams’ are scheduled.
The Spark Computer Graphics Society (SPARK CG) has announced the full 2025 SPARK ANIMATION Festival and Conference program in Vancouver. The festival runs September 18-21; the conference, which will open with a talk by Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant), runs September 20-21.
Highlights include a conversation with Bird, who will share insights from his animation and live-action career. Presentations include the making of KPop Demon Hunters, Pixar Animation’s Elio, the upcoming adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Twits, and In Your Dreams.
This year’s festival opens with the Western Canadian Premiere of Kid Koala’s feature debut, Space Cadet. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director. On September 19, SPARK will host an encore screening of KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along followed by the North American premiere of I Am What I Am 2.
The festival will close with the North American premiere of Kenji Iwaisawa’s 100 Meters, based on the manga by Uoto.
The short film line-up features projects from established and up-and-coming talents, including new projects from legendary animator Aaron Blaise (Snow Bear); Jean-Philippe Vine’s Cardboard from Locksmith Animation; Andy Martin & Alex Bain’s Tiddler; and Cartoon Saloon’s Éiru, directed by Giovanna Ferrari.
