The Mattel toy-inspired action adventure, directed by Sam Hargrave and starring John Cena, Jessica Biel and an ensemble cast, streams exclusively on October 9.
Apple TV has just released the trailer for Matchbox The Movie, an Apple Original Film from Skydance Media and Mattel Studios that streams globally on October 9. Sam Hargrave directs and executive produces the film from a screenplay by David Coggeshall.
Inspired by Mattel's iconic toys, the “action-packed, globetrotting adventure” follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are upended when Sean, their long-absent former leader and an undercover CIA agent played by John Cena, returns to their small town and unwittingly embroils them in a frantic international pursuit to save the world.
The cast also includes Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Danai Gurira, Golshifteh Farahani, Corey Stoll and Bill Camp. Guess which actor named Corey is the villain?
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger produce for Skydance, while Robbie Brenner and Ynon Kreiz produce for Mattel Studios. Jules Daly also serves as producer, and Patrick Newall and Elizabeth Bassin serve as executive producers.
VFX studios on the project include BOT VFX, Clear Angle Studios, Digital Domain, Fin Design & Effects, Image Engine and OPSIS.
