Alley Cats, a new original adult animated comedy series created, written and directed by iconic comedian Ricky Gervais, debuts August 7 on Netflix. And now, it has an Official Trailer. Netflix has just shared the trailer along with a huge selection of images and posters. The six-episode series stars Gervais alongside Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley and Diane Morgan, with Natalie Cassidy and Tony Way also featured. Gervais is in Annecy this week and will be presenting a Masterclass on the upcoming series this Thursday, June 25.
The show follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats from all walks of society who seek companionship while ruminating on the struggles of everyday life. From the funny to the absurd, the series features Gervais’ signature style of heart and social commentary, along with a bold 2D animation style produced at UK-based Blink Industries.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a trailer,” Gervais said. “I can’t wait for everyone to get to know these cats.”
Gervais is creator, writer and director on the series, with Elliot Dear serving as co-director. Executive producers are Gervais of Derek Productions, Steven Hamilton Shaw of Shush Creative, and James Stevenson Bretton and Ben Lole for Blink Industries. Hugo Donkin is producer, and Tang Heng is production designer.
Blink Industries, whose credits include Dead End: Paranormal Park and Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, is the animation studio. Season 1 features six episodes of 15 minutes each.
Gervais is the creator and star of The Office, Extras, Derek and the Netflix series After Life. His Netflix stand-up specials include Humanity, Supernature and Armageddon, the latter of which won a Golden Globe, was nominated for a Grammy and was the global No. 1 most-watched show on Netflix. He is currently touring his latest stand-up show, Mortality, which will also be filmed for Netflix.
