ADAPT Opens Enrollment for Daniel Dociu’s ‘The Need for Re-invention’ Masterclass

10-week live class led by the noted sci-fi / fantasy artist and creative director explores in detail the need for creatives to redefine their role in industry shaped by AI, rapid tech change, and new production realities; starts June 30.

ADAPT Academy has opened enrollment for The Need for Re-invention, a 10-week, 30-hour live masterclass led by noted sci-fi / fantasy artist and creative director Daniel Dociu, with classes beginning Tuesday, June 30.

Designed for creatives across games, film, animation, VFX, motion graphics and related disciplines, The Need for Re-invention explores the need for artists and creative leaders to redefine their role in an industry increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, rapid technological change and evolving production realities. Rather than focusing primarily on software or technical workflows, the course centers on creative strategy, artistic leadership, visual storytelling, team culture and the long-term principles that shape meaningful creative work.

“Technology evolves rapidly, but the fundamental challenges of creative direction, communication, collaboration and artistic intent remain,” Dociu said. “The goal of this class is to help artists develop stronger creative judgment, maintain clarity of vision, and navigate change without losing authorship or purpose.”

Over the course of 10 weeks, students will participate in a hybrid lecture and atelier format combining live discussions, open debates, real-world production insights and personalized project feedback sessions. Participants will progressively develop their own creative project or vision while receiving direct guidance from Dociu and engaging in collaborative group critique.

Topics explored throughout the masterclass include:

  • Clarity of vision and creative leadership
  • Design process breakdown and strategic thinking
  • Concept art vs. production design vs. illustration
  • Visual storytelling vs. production value
  • Stylistic positioning and artistic identity
  • Building empowered creative teams
  • The value of diversity in production environments
  • The beauty of imperfection in digital creation
  • Long-term creative adaptability in the age of AI

Born and educated in Romania with a master’s degree in industrial design, Dociu has spent more than three decades in senior creative leadership positions across the interactive entertainment industry. His career includes leadership and consulting roles with ArenaNet, NCsoft, Amazon Game Studios, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, SquareSoft and numerous other studios and productions.

ADAPT Academy is a premium “Thinking First” platform focused on recruitment, talent validation, advanced mentorship, creative leadership, production-oriented learning and direct industry interaction for artists working in games, film, animation, visual effects and emerging entertainment technologies.
