‘The Normal MFer’ Posts First-Season YouTube Audience Growth

Viewership increased dramatically after CC0 Studios and The Hive Studio partnered with AI audience simulation platform Chronicle Media to expand the series’ organic reach.

The Normal MFer, the YouTube animated teen comedy from CC0 Studios, Lawl (aka Joe McNaney), Alex Orrelle (Space Jam: A New Legacy) and The Hive Studio, posted major audience growth across its 10-episode first season after partnering with AI audience simulation platform Chronicle Media. The Hive and Chronicle teamed up on two seriesThe Normal MFer and The Vampair - this past February; Chronicle first announced it had raised $11.6M June 2025.

Between episodes 1 and 10, organic reach increased by as much as 619%, reaching 944,000; new viewers increased 330% and watch time increased by 1,804%, totaling 31,000 hours. Viewing also grew steadily across multiple devices during Season 1, particularly connected TVs, driven by Chronicle’s audience discovery and content optimization capabilities.

CC0 and The Hive Studio partnered with Chronicle Media to help expand organic reach for show; Chronicle was tasked with discovering and attracting new viewers while further building the series’ fandom, deploying its autonomous social growth technology over a three-month period to identify high-value audience cohorts, drive new viewers to the YouTube channel, increase engagement and accelerate audience growth.

Chronicle identified previously underserved audience segments, including 13- to 34-year-old male audiences and viewers of animation, horror and dark-fantasy channels such as Adult Swim, Solar Opposites and Rick and Morty. The company said those efforts helped drive sustained organic growth from the series premiere through the Season 1 finale.

The Normal MFer shares similar origins with Backrooms – a kernel of an idea that began as a meme on 4chan and quickly found meaningful audiences on YouTube,” said Lawl and Orrelle. “Today’s creators now have the freedom to build and establish passionate fandoms across social media, representing a new model and pathway to mainstream success. With The Normal MFer, Chronicle’s tech helped a project that began as a meme-driven, irreverent take on teen angst and online subculture find its audience and emerge as a breakout success on YouTube.”

The Normal MFer centers on a terminally online man’s desire to grow up against the forces that keep him from leaving home: video games, web-influencers, unreasonable wealth expectations, social anxieties, a disappointed father, a mother who treats him like he’s 11 and pets who secretly harvest his data for an AI startup.

The series was created by Orrelle, who serves as showrunner and supervising director, and CC0 Studios founder Lawl. It is written by Emmy Award nominee Jennifer Skelly, with Amit Russell Gicelter’s The Hive Studio producing.
