New 8-episode season, set in 1994, sees Ted and his best friend John as seniors in high school; the hybrid live-action / CG series from Seth MacFarlane streams March 5.
Peacock has just shared a trailer for its hit series, Ted, that broke records on the streamer for most-watched original title when it launched one January 11, 2024. It was the #1 Original Streaming Comedy in the U.S. for more than two consecutive months (per Nielsen). Season 2 debuts all eight episodes on March 5.
In a note from co-showrunners Seth MacFarlane, Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, they wrote, “We’ve made a second season of our show Ted which we are excited to share with you. The episodes represent the hard work of our fellow writers, gifted actors, and talented crew, including the visual effects team who bring the character of Ted so convincingly to life.
We hope you enjoy these eight somewhat filthy, hopefully funny heartfelt episodes about a young man, his talking teddy bear, and their highly dysfunctional family. On the off-chance the series is not your cup of tea, a great way to get us back is to leave all the episodes playing to completion on multiple devices throughout the house. That’ll show us.”
In the new season of the live-action / CGI hybrid series, set prior to the events in the Ted films, it’s 1994, and senior year of high school is underway for Ted the foul-mouthed teddy bear and his best friend, likable but awkward John Bennett. Together they live in a working-class Boston home with John's parents (Matty and Susan) and cousin (Blaire). Matty is a blustering, blue-collar Bostonian who sees himself as the unequivocal boss of the house and doesn’t like anyone challenging him, particularly his liberal-minded niece. Susan is kind, selfless, and almost pathologically sweet when it comes to caring for her family. Blaire is an outspoken college student who often finds herself at odds with her more traditional-minded relatives.
Of course, as always, Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship. Or something like that.
In addition to his duties as director on the series, MacFarlane acts as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Corrigan and Walsh. Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, and Aimee Carlson also executive produce.
Peacock is also producing Ted: The Animated Series (WT), which will pick up where the Ted films left off and feature Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth, Kyle Mooney, and Liz Richman voicing the roles. Both series are produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door, and MRC, the latter of which also produced the original Ted films.
VFX studios on the series include Folks, Framestore, Studio Blackbird, and Tippett Studio.
